CableEye® Cable Testers for Continuity and Full Harness Testing
The modular architecture of the CableEye® system is built around the CB series of interchangeable interface boards. With over 60 standard boards available, the system can be configured to test almost any connector type, from standard D-Sub and IDC headers to high-density micro-connectors and complex multi-pin circular assemblies.
This tool is designed to help you identify the specific board required for your harness. Whether you are testing high-voltage looms in a defence environment or low-resistance medical assemblies, selecting the correct interface is the first step toward repeatable, automated testing.
How to Evaluate Board Compatibility
When selecting an interface board for your CableEye® system, consider the following technical constraints:
-
Standard Voltage Rating: Most CB boards are rated to 500Vdc as standard. This is sufficient for the majority of continuity and isolation testing in industrial and commercial applications.
-
High Voltage Requirements: For Hipot testing or dielectric withstand tests exceeding 500Vdc, specific “H-variant” boards are available. Many standard boards can also be certified for higher voltages upon request.
-
Expansion & Test Point Count: Ensure the chosen board fits within your system’s current test point capacity. Standard boards typically range from 64 to 128 points per header.
-
Environmental & Material Constraints: For medical or aerospace applications, ensure the board substrate meets your specific outgassing or cleanliness standards.
How to use this guide
1. Search by Connector Series
Use the search field to enter your specific connector type (e.g., “M12”, “D-Sub”, or “USB-C”). The finder will display the most suitable board for that interface.
2. Rapid Custom Mounting (CB8/CB8H)
For circular or proprietary connectors where a dedicated board is not available, the CB8 and CB8H provide a rapid-interface solution. These boards include a hardware mounting kit, allowing you to physically secure your specific mating connector directly to the PCB. You simply wire the connector to the pre-drilled solder pads, creating a rugged, self-contained test fixture without the need for external panels or enclosures.
3. Verify Voltage Compatibility
Check the Voltage Compatibility field against your test requirements:
-
Standard (500Vdc): Suitable for most continuity and isolation tests.
-
H-Variant / Certified Option: For Hipot testing above 500Vdc, ensure you specify the “H” version of the board (e.g., CB8H) or request high-voltage certification for standard boards where available.
4. Review Test Point Allocation
Each entry lists the Max Test Points available per board. Ensure your system’s expansion modules have sufficient capacity to handle the total number of points required for your harness, especially when using high-density boards like the CB18 or CB55.
5. Legacy Transition (Cirris® Users)
If you have an existing stock of interface adapters from legacy systems, search for the CB34. This board acts as a bridge, allowing you to use those adapters directly within the CableEye® software environment.
